3rd Annual
Crazy for Camp Polar Plunge
|
|
The date is set - May 6th - for our 3rd Annual Crazy for Camp Polar Plunge.
For the past two years, this event has raised over $800 with anywhere from 12-18 people taking the plunge. This year, we have set our goal at $1,200 and 25 plungers. Toward this end, we have schedule the event on the weekend of our Junior Retreat in Stonington-Deer Isle, Maine.
If you would like to be a part of this super-fun and amusing event, please contact Tricia Carver at tcarver@cofchrist.org for more information. A fundraising sheet will be posted on this website by April 1st.
Please join us- whether it be in person or with funding- so that youth who cannot afford 100% of the cost of a camp registration can still come to camp. Most of this money goes to assisting with the cost of registration.
And, if you dare, Come Plunge with Us!

It is with pleasure and anticipation that I send out this message on behalf of the Mission Center and a team of individuals who have begun working toward re-establishing a camping ministry in Onset, Massachusetts, specifically Camp Muddy Cove.
The Mission Center has established a team of individuals who represent many areas of interest in and experience with Camping in the Community of Christ. Several members of this team have the majority of their camping experience in Camp Muddy Cove. Several members represent the interests of camping throughout the long Community of Christ tradition. Our team represents the perspectives of campers, counselors, staff, administrators, directors, and program coordinators. All of us are interested in the possibilities for ministry that camping offers. We uphold ministry as THE major focus of camp while safety is our first priority.
Our team will continue to conference and gather information throughout the coming months. We have begun to discuss safety and security suggestions voiced by youth and adults alike at our September 2011 meeting in Onset. As a team, we are interested in continuing these discussions with the Board of Trustees to consider how we might assist one another in pursuing the future of Camp Muddy Cove in Onset. We are also looking at off-site facilities for future years, should we not be able to accommodate a camp in Onset that meets Risk Management standards.
As a team, we appreciate your prayers as we uphold in prayer the future of Camp Muddy Cove.
Grace and Peace, Tricia

Tricia Attends Seminary- Information which may interest the Mission Center
Recently, I, Tricia, enrolled in Bangor
Theological Seminary at Husson University in Bangor, Maine. I am
attending classes and studying to receive the education of a Masters in
Divinity. This is proving to be a most challenging adventure. I have met
many new friends and colleagues representing diverse backgrounds,
callings, church affiliations (the church they are a part of- I am the
only one from the Community of Christ), and personalities.
Our studies
are challenging and rewarding. I have wanted to pursue a post-graduate education at seminary since I
was perhaps 15 years old. It is a blessing in my life, and I am certain
that what I learn in seminary will impact how I serve in this position
and in the future.
With regards to how this education may impact my service as Youth Ministry Coordinator, I would like to elaborate and make a few points. First, continuing education is an expectation of any full-time employee of the Community of Christ. Since the birth of our faith tradition, education has been emphasized. We are encouraged to enlighten our minds that we might both seek Truths ourselves and engage in learning with the community of seekers. Many of my youth ministry co-workers are attending seminary at the Community of Christ. Many of us are now trying to balance working and attending school. Second, the goal of this education is to enhance the quality of ministry and education we can provide throughout our communities, congregations, the Mission Center, and our world. This is both a very personal journey for me AND a very shared journey. I want to share all I am able with our youth and also with the mission center. To this end, I try to write weekly in a blog (linked on this site) and am letting this education inform scheduled events and instruction in the future. Third and finally, At seminary, 3 classes is considered a full-time course load. In effect, I am a full-time student while I am also a full-time employee of the Community of Christ. Without doubt, this will impact how I am able to serve throughout the Mission Center. There will be times when congregational involvement will take precedence over weekend retreats (I actually believe it should be this way.)--unless other volunteers come forward and are willing to over-see events.
At no time will I lack the desire to be uniting our youth in community, yet I see potential to perform at a level which may be lower than I would desire--both in school and on the job. As a sister, friend, and fellow servant, I ask for your understanding and even support to do the most Loving job I can. Though some may, at times, be let down by what the program offers, still I will try to Love and be Accountable.
Above all, we must all be true to ourselves and our calling. The richest rewards await us all in that Truth, especially as we journey in Community. May we all be blessed by the Enlightening of our minds.
