Jr/Jr High Weekend RetreatRETREAT SCHEDULELa Salette "Christmas Light" ShrineCome on down to the southern part of New England when Christmas is just
around the corner! This is a weekend event, Friday night through
Sunday afternoon, for 3rd to 8th graders who want to catch up with old
friends, meet new friends and great counselors/staff, and be a part of
all the great things we do at retreats. This is in Rhode Island, but
we'll ride down together from Maine!
This time, we'll be helping
some people get ready for Christmas! We'll be cutting down a
Christmas tree to decorate and give away to someone who may not
otherwise have one. Like always, we'll have plenty of time to spend
getting to know your new friends and counselors/staff, singing at
campfire, helping out with worship, and more. It looks like a trip to an amazing display of Christmas lights and decorations is in the mix, too, but who knows what great Christmas/winter activity
might pop up between now and then.
Please mail registrations to Tricia Carver 293 Main Road North, Hampden, ME 04444. The cost for this retreat is
$60. Transportation, especially from Maine, will be arranged. Contact
Tricia ASAP to work out these details.

SPOOKY for SPEC! POST-EVENT UPDATE & PICTURES BELOW
The purpose of the event was to raise funds for students
interested in attending SPEC next summer (2011, 10th-12th graders) AND to
enjoy a great night together.
SPEC will cost between
$600-$800 per youth. This was our first fundraiser.
UPDATE: 9 Jr. High/Sr. High campers and 3 adults came together on Friday night. After we watched two of our youth perform in "Our Town" a community play, we stayed up until almost 3 am planning, decorating, and coordinating a Halloween party for the youth and congregation (inviting friends as well!) in Brewer, Maine. Saturday morning, the 30th of October, from 10 to 12, 35 to 40 kids and adults were in attendance! It was a really fun event. The youth that planned the party were partnered up with the kids who came... ALMOST EVERYONE IN COSTUME... as we all shared in decorating paper pumpkins, a candy hunt, face-painting, singing 5 Little Pumpkins, Pin the Nose on the Jack-o-lantern, Hide-n-Go Boo, Ring Around the Pumpkin, eating Dirt and Worms and Scarrots (except I forgot to buy the carrots), and a balloon stomp game. We played two rounds of the balloon stomp game-- one for the young kids and one for the older youth. The young kids were SO EXCITED to see their older role models playing the same game they had just played. They were saying, "This is gonna be the best thing ever!" as they watched. It was really great.
We called ourselves, our gathered community, the Pumpkin Munchkins, and ended our little celebration with an all hands in "1,2,3 PUMPKIN MUNCHKINS!" cheer.
Does anybody else sense a Christmas party coming on?!
